Preheater System X 17 DT (TC 4 EE 1)

The X 17 DT is equipped with a modified preheater system.

The preheater system is monitored by the electronic control unit.

This has the following advantages for the engine:

-   Improved cold start behaviour

-   Decreased smoke/particle emissions

-   More regular, smoother operation

-   Low noise

-   Higher output

The voltage of the electronically monitored preheater system is dependent on:

-   Coolant temperature,

-   Glow plug temperature,

-   Glow period,

-   Vehicle speed

and is controlled by the electronic control unit using a thermosensor.

The preheating process can be divided into two periods:

1. Preheating

The preheating period is approx. 2.5 seconds at - 25 °C/ - 13 °F. This is achieved by the use of ceramic sheathed glow plugs.

Previously up to 4 seconds, depending on size of above parameters

The engine is then ready for starting.

2. Post-heating

Post-heating can last up to 6 minutes. Post-heating is independent of vehicle speed.

Previously, post-heating was interrupted at vehicle speeds above 18 km/h (11 mph).

Post-heating is interrupted at a coolant temperature of ³55 °C/131 °F.
