Steering Column Assembly, Disassemble and Assemble
Remove, Disconnect Remove steering wheel - see operation "Steering Wheel and/or Slide Contact Ring Remove and Install (Version with Airbag)" or "Steering Wheel and/or Slide Contact Ring Remove and Install (Version without Airbag)" Remove two component signal switch panelling and lock cylinder (compress detent spring in position II with welding rod). Unclip signal switch and wiper switch. Depress both locking lugs (top and bottom). Switch housing - lever out housing safety plug. Extract ball bearing from switch housing with KM-108 - see operation "Steering Spindle Ball Bearing, Replace from Above".
Install, Connect |

Insert ball bearing from switch housing with KM-108 - see operation "Steering Spindle Ball Bearing, Replace from Above". Observe the thrust washer (1) of the ball bearing. Observe the correct assembly position of both contact springs (2). Press down both contact springs. |

Remove, Disconnect Disconnect contact part wiring harness plug from contact part, remove both set screws. Remove steering shaft form steering shaft flange. Insert the loose fitting plastic disc in the steering column support. Remove steering shaft from the steering column.
Important! Avoid knocking or bumping the shaft in any way whatsoever. |

Assemble Install steering shaft in the flexible disk. Install contact part in steering and ignition lock. Install switch housing on steering column - use new safety plugs. Install signal switch and wiper switch with connected wiring harness plugs. Install signal switch panelling above and below. Install lock cylinder for steering and ignition locks. Lock cylinder and contact part must be in the same switching position. Install rubber cover on housing for steering and ignition lock. Assemble disc and pressure spring on steering shaft ball bearing.
Install, Connect Turn wheels to straight ahead position. Tighten clamp bolt, steering shaft onto steering coupling - tightening torque 22 Nm/16 lbf. ft. Press out plastic disc (1), previously inserted in steering column, from support tube (sits loosely on steering shaft). Fit steering wheel - see operation "Steering Wheel and/or Slide Contact Ring Remove and Install (Version with Airbag)" or "Steering Wheel and/or Slide Contact Ring Remove and Install (Version without Airbag)"
Inspect Check the straight ahead position of the steering - see operation "Straight Ahead Position, Check/Adjust". |
