Notes for Trouble-shooting:

Nominal Value:

Cause of Fault:

(If nominal value is not attained)

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect plug X 21 from instrument

·   Ignition ON

·   Measure voltage between X 21/Ter. 9 and X 21/Ter. 4:

> 11 volts

·   Check fuse F 7

·   Lead between F 7 and instrument is interrupted

·   Lead between F 7 and instrument has short circuit to ground

·   Lead between instrument and ground is interrupted

 

 

 

If nominal value is attained:

 

·   Pulse to ground in instrument wiring harness plug X 21/Ter. 3:

> 0 km/h

·   Instrument defective

·   Speedometer cable defective

·   Check connection of speedometer cable in manual or automatic transmission

 

 

 

If nominal value is attained:

 

·   If nominal value is attained:

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect radio plug X 69 from radio H 1

·   Ignition ON

·   Pulse to ground in instrument wiring harness plug X 21/Ter. 3:

 

> 0 km/h

·   Radio H1 defective

 

 

If nominal value is attained:

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect plug from engine control unit (Multec or Motronic)

·   Ignition ON

·   Pulse to ground in instrument wiring harness plug X 21/Ter. 3:

 

> 0 km/h

·   Fault in engine management circuit (see corresponding Checking Procedures)

 

 

If nominal value is not attained:

 

·   Ignition OFF

·   Disconnect plug X 20 from MID

·   Ignition ON

·   Raise vehicle

·   Transmission in neutral

·   Slowly turn both front wheels

·   Measure voltage between X 20/Ter. 20 and ground:

 

alternates between < 1 volt and > 9 volts

·   Lead from X 21/Ter. 3 to X 69/Ter. 5, engine control unit and X 20 /Ter. 20 has short circuit  to voltage

·   Ignition OFF

 

 

 

·   Measure resistance between instrument wiring harness plug X 21/Ter. 3 and X 20/Ter. 20:

 

< 1 W

·   Lead from X 21/Ter. 3 to X 20/Ter. 20 is interrupted

·   Measure resistance between X 21/Ter. 3 and ground:

·   Lead from X 21/Ter. 3 to X 69/Ter. 5, engine control unit and X 20 /Ter. 20 has short circuit to ground

 

·   If nominal values are attained

 

·   MID defective
