Damping Bushings|Description and Operation > < Recommended Torque Values

Damping Bushing of Rear Axle, Replace (Except Astra OPC and Astra Coupe)

Note:   To make it easier to remove the damping bushing, these must be sprayed in the area of the rear axle mounting with universal spray oil 1 day before removal. The damping bushing of the rear axle must always be replaced in pairs.

  Remove

Remove rear wheels. Remove rear axle - see operation "Rear Axle, Remove and Install".

Caution

To remove the damping bushing, simply turn the fork wrench (2) and counterhold with the adjacent hexagon of KM-906-70-A (5).

Detach fastening bolt from rear axle bracket and remove rear axle bracket. Remove spacer ring (1) from damping bushing. Attach KM-6006-1-A (3), KM-6006-2-B (4) and KM-906-70-A and draw damping bushing from rear axle.

  Install

Coat new damping bushing with silicone grease. Attach KM-6006-3-A (3), KM-6006-4-A (2) and KM-906-70-A (1) with damping bushing to rear axle and align marking (4) on KM-6006-3-A with the upper edge of the control arm (see upper figure).

Draw damping bushing into rear axle. To draw in, only turn the large hexagon of KM-906-70-A (1). Only use the hexagon on the end of the spindle (5) for counterholding.

Attach rear axle bracket to damping bushing with new fastening bolt and new fastening nut - turn screwed joint so that it is loosely attached.

Note:   The screwed joint between the rear axle bracket and the damping bushing is tightened when the rear axle is fitted, whilst maintaining the distance between the spring mount on the rear axle and the spring mount on the vehicle underbody.

Distance measurement:

Saloon

168 ± 10 mm

Estate

198 ± 10 mm


Install rear axle - see operation "Rear Axle, Remove and Install".

Fit rear wheels - tightening torque 110 Nm / 81 lbf. ft.
