Differential, Remove and Install (F13)
Note: Transmission
remains installed.
 Remove
|
Axle shafts – see operation "Axle Shafts, Remove and
Install" in group "E".
Detach cover (1) for differential from transmission (10
fastening bolts). Fluid escapes Place collecting basin
underneath.
Mark bearing ring (2) position in relation to transmission
(arrow).
Remove end shield cover (3) – see operation "Gasket for
End Shield Cover, Replace (F13/F17/F17+/F18)".
Remove end shield (4) – see operation "Gasket for End
Shield, Replace (F13/F17/F17+/F18)".

Disassemble
|
Mark bearing ring position in relation to transmission housing.
Remove retaining plate (1) from bearing ring. Remove bearing ring
with KM-447 (2). Remove differential from transmission from
below.

Assemble
Insert differential into transmission from below. Coat thread
(arrow) and new O-ring (3) with multi-purpose grease. The
connection must be oil-tight.
Screw bearing ring with KM-447 (4) into transmission housing.
(set bearing ring to previous mark).
Inspect
Check play of tapered roller bearing differentials and adjust if
necessary – see operation "Adjustment Regulations for Tapered
Roller Bearing (Differential) (F13)".
Install
Install end shield – see operation "Gasket for End Shield,
Replace – F13/F17/F17+/F18".
Install end shield cover – see operation "Gasket for End
Shield, Replace (F13/F17/F17+/F18)".

Attach differential cover (1) with new gasket to transmission
(10 fastening bolts) – tightening torque 30 Nm / 22 lbf. ft.
Install axle shafts – see operation "Axle Shafts, Remove and
Install" in group "E".
Inspect
Top up transmission fluid and check transmission fluid level on
checking bolt (arrow) – see operation "Transmission Fluid
Level, Check and Correct (F13/F17/F17+/F18)".
