The following test steps may or may not be helpful, they are only a proposal.
-
Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- Read and record diagnostic trouble codes including status
- Check for trouble codes with status INTERMITTENT or NOT PRESENT. If a trouble code is stored this may indicate the circuit which has the intermittent condition.
-
- Move the related connectors, wiring harness and components in order to find the failure. Switch on all electric consumers by turns, because this can cause an electromagnetic interference in a circuit. Use the TECH 31/32 or an oscilloscope to observe the wiring harness for disturbances. Operate the system under different conditions over a considerable time.
-
Quick Check
- Select the following Functional System on the diagnostic tester:
MTA (Easytronic) (M20-6MTA/M32-6MTA)
- Perform the following evaluation:
-
SPS Programming
- Compare the SPS software number in the control unit with the version on TIS/TIS 2000 . If there is a newer version on TIS/TIS 2000 , perform the SPS programming.
-
- The following control units can impair the system function:
Engine TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) CDC (Continuous Damping Control) - Progressive Steering System EHPS (Electrohydraulic Power Steering) ABS/TC/ESP (Vehicle Dynamic System) - PAS (Park Pilot) SDM (Airbag) AHL/AFL (Headlamp Levelling Device) - DIS (Info Display) IPC (Instrument) - The checking of the corresponding Data List / Actuator Tests may or may not be helpful.
After successful test/fault repair proceed to the next test step
