Complaint: Engine Misfire, MIL on and trouble codes P0300 and P0301 or P0302, P0303, P0304 are stored.
Cause: Internal logic within the ECU recognizes an irregular rotary motion. Misfire trouble codes P0300 – P0304 can be stored for a number of reasons and not only be attributed to ignition related faults. Therefore, in the event of any engine misfire trouble code, it is recommended that all failure records in ECU are stored prior to deletion of any trouble codes. Please use following Tech 2 steps to store failure records: - Select F0 Diagnostics - Choose MY and Vehicle - Select F1 Engine - Select Engine version - Select F0 Diagnostic Trouble Codes - Select F2 Read failure Records, saved Trouble Codes will be shown - Store data - Choose the saving location - Connect Tech 2 to computer - Open TIS 2000 - Choose techline print - Download Tech 2 - Select data from saved location - Save > > on hard disk This data can be opened in txt format and forwarded.

Remedy:

In case of customer complaint perform investigation as described in TIS
checking procedure and store failure record data as described above.
It is important to distinguish if misfire on all cylinders or one
cylinder.

Misfire on all cylinders:
• Appears only at low fuel level (nearly empty) few km/miles after
refilling with fuel: check for contamination / exchange fuel content.
• Appears only with full load (lean mixture ->
 low lambda voltage value
in failure record data): check fuel pressure during this condition.
• Fuel contamination (Diesel, Ehanol, Water) in general will also cause
  misfire on all cylinders.

Misfire only on one cylinder could be caused by:
• Injection valve
• Spark plug
• Insufficient compression
• Faulty ignition coil (defect ignition coil is always reproducible
  under high load)
