Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement (1.7L Diesel LPL and LPV)

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood.
2. Unclip the electronic control module bracket and move the engine control module to one side.

3. Remove the 2 exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler pipe bolts (4).
4. Separate the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler pipe (3) from the exhaust gas recirculation valve (1).
5. Remove and discard the gasket (2).

6. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation valve wiring harness plug (1).
7. Remove the 4 exhaust gas recirculation valve bolts (2).

Note:  Mark the position of the coolant hose bracket.
8. Remove the coolant hose bracket (3).
9. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve (4).
10. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve gasket (5).

Installation Procedure

1. Install a New exhaust gas recirculation valve gasket (5).
2. Install the exhaust gas recirculation valve (4).
3. Install the coolant hose bracket (3).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .
4. Install the 4 exhaust gas recirculation valve bolts (2) and tighten to 24 N·m (18 lb ft) .
5. Connect the exhaust gas recirculation valve wiring harness plug (1).

6. Install a New gasket (2).
7. Install the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler pipe (3) to the exhaust gas recirculation valve (1).
8. Install the 2 exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler pipe bolts (4) and tighten to 29 N·m (21 lb ft) .
9. After the replacement of exhaust gas recirculation valve, use a scan tool to perform the appropriate reset function. Refer to Engine Control Module Programming and Setup .
10. Clip in the electronic control module bracket.
11. Close the hood.
