Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
3. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
4. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation valve wiring harness plug.

Note:  Place a basin underneath.
5. Remove the 2 exhaust gas recirculation valve bolts (4).
6. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve (3).
7. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve gasket (5).
8. Remove the 4 exhaust gas recirculation valve gasket bolts (2).
9. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation valve gasket (1).

Installation Procedure

1. Clean all sealing surfaces.

2. Install a NEW exhaust gas recirculation valve gasket (1).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution

3. Install the 4 exhaust gas recirculation valve gasket bolts (2) and tighten to 10 N·m (89 lb in) .
4. Install a NEW exhaust gas recirculation valve gasket (5).
5. Install the exhaust gas recirculation valve (3).
6. Install the 2 exhaust gas recirculation valve bolts (4) and tighten in two passes:
  6.1 First pass: Hand tighten.
  6.2 Second pass to 10 N·m (89 lb in) .
7. Connect the exhaust gas recirculation valve wiring harness plug.
8. Install the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
9. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
10. Use a scan tool to perform the appropriate reset function. Refer to Engine Control Module Programming and Setup
11. Refill the coolant system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
12. Close the hood.
