Camshaft Sprocket Replacement

Special Tools

•  EN-956-1   Extension
•  EN-6347   Holding Tool
•  EN-45059   Torque Angle Sensor Kit

For equivalent tools, refer to Special Tools .

Removal Procedure

1. Open the hood.
2. Remove the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .

Note:  A second technician is required.
3. Install the EN-6347   holding tool (1) and the EN-956-1   extension (2) to the exhaust camshaft sprocket.
4. Loosen the locking bolts (3) from EN-6347   holding tool .

Note:  The grooves of EN-6347   holding tool must locate in the camshaft sprocket. Check for correct seating.
5. Tighten the 2 locking bolts (3).
6. Loosen the exhaust camshaft sprocket bolt (4) while holding the exhaust camshaft sprocket with EN-6347   holding tool
7. Remove the EN-6347   holding tool and the EN-956-1   extension from the exhaust camshaft sprocket.
8. Repeat the same procedure at the intake camshaft sprocket for removal.

9. Remove and DISCARD the camshaft sprocket bolts (1).
10. Remove the camshaft sprocket washers (2).
11. Remove the camshaft sprockets (3).

Installation Procedure

1. Install the camshaft sprockets (3).

Note:  Turn the sprockets around till them locked in correct position.
2. Install the camshaft sprocket washers (2) and NEW camshaft sprocket bolts (1) and hand tighten.

3. Install the EN-6347   holding tool (1) and the EN-956-1   holding tool (2) in the exhaust camshaft sprocket.
4. Loosen the locking bolts (3) from EN-6347   holding tool .

Note:  The grooves of EN-6347   holding tool must locate in the camshaft sprocket. Check for correct seating

Note:  A second technician is required.
5. Tighten the 2 locking bolts (3).

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution .
6. Tighten the bolts in three passes use the :
  •  First pass tighten to 50 N·m (37 lb ft) .
  •  Second pass tighten to 60° using the EN-45059   sensor kit .
  •  Third pass tighten to 15° using the EN-45059   sensor kit .
7. Remove the EN-6347   holding tool and the EN-956-1   extension from the exhaust camshaft sprocket.
8. Repeat the same procedure at the intake camshaft sprocket for installation.
9. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement .
10. Close the hood.
