Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Cooler Cleaning and Inspection

Cleaning Procedure

1. Remove the old gasket material from the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler sealing surfaces.
2. Clean all excess dirt and debris from the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler housing.

1. Inspect the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler for the following:
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on the housing surface (2).
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on the bracket (3).
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on the housing surface for the housing (8).
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on the housing surface for the housing (13).
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on the housing surface for the valve (10).
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on the housing surface for the valve (5).
  •  Damage to the threads of the 5 exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler bolts (1).
  •  Damage to the threads of the 3 exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler bolts (4).
  •  Damage to the threads of the 2 exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler bolts (11).
  •  Damage to the threads of the 3 exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler bolts (12).
  •  Damage to the threads in the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler housing for the engine temperature sensor (6).
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on sealing (15).
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on sealing (14).
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on gasket (9).
  •  Damage, scoring, or cracks on every sealing surface.
2. Inspect the exhaust gas recirculation valve cooler actuator (see arrow in picture) for damage, scoring, or cracks on the housing surface and actuator rod.
3. Check the function and leak tightness of the actuator by using a hand vacuum pump.
4. Inspect the vacuum hoses (7, 16) for damage, scoring or cracks.

5. Remove the cooling module (3) of the housing (1).
6. Inspect the cooling module (3) for damage, scoring, or cracks.
7. Inspect the inner surface (see arrow in picture) for debris.
8. Inspect the cooling module sealing (2) for damage.
