Cylinder Head, Disassemble and Assemble (16DA, 17D)
Remove
cylinder head.

Disassemble
Remove
bracket between intake and exhaust manifolds. Unbolt intake and exhaust
manifolds from cylinder head.
Remove
gaskets.

Remove
rocker arms, thrust pieces and valve lash adjusters.
|
|
Remove
all return lines from injectors.
Remove
injectors using Injector Installer KM-133-B.
|
|
Remove
contact rail.
Remove
glow plugs.
|
|
Mark
all valves for identification.
|
|
Compress
valve springs using KM-348, remove keys, decompress springs and remove spring
with spring washer.
Pull
valve from valve guides.
Drive
swirl chambers form cylinder head using 6 mm/0.24 in. diameter brass drift.

|
Drive
out insulating sleeves from cylinder head using brass drift (10 mm/0.39 in.
dia.).
Lever
off valve stem seals using screwdriver.
Remove
valve rotators.
Thoroughly
clean cylinder head.

|
Assemble
If
a new cylinder head is being installed, transfer studs for intake and exhaust
manifolds and centring pins form old to new cylinder head.
Before
installing valves, lubricate valve stems with engine oil and insert valves
into guides of cylinder head.
Check
projection or recess of valves.

Mount
valve rotators.
Install
valve stem seals.
Push
mounting sleeve enclosed with seals on to valve stem end and slightly oil.
Cut
sleeve to correct length.
Push
new valve stem seal (without tilting) over valve stem onto valve guide.
Remove mounting sleeve.

|
Install
valve springs.
Install
valve spring with spring washer and compress.
Insert
keys. Remove valve spring compressor.
|
|
Insert
swirl chambers. In doing so, observe centering ball in swirl chamber to
prevent twisting.
Measure
projection of swirl chambers.

Insert
seal ring for insulating sleeve.
Knock
in insulating sleeve.
Place
an additional seal ring on insulating sleeve.
|
|
Place
corrugated washer in sleeve.
Attention:
Crowned
side upward.
Direction
of arrow = cylinder head.
Always
use new seal rings and corrugated washers.
Install
injection nozzles using KM-133-A.
Observe
prescribed torque.
Install
glow plugs.
Install
contact rail and connection cable between first and second glow plugs.
Place
return lines with hose clamp on injectors and tighten.

Insert
valve lash adjusters and pressure pieces.
Install
rocker arms.
Coat
sliding surface against camshaft with molybdenum disulphide paste.
Mount
intake and exhaust manifolds.
Mount
gaskets.
Tighten
bracket.
Install
cylinder head.
