Valve Guide, Ream

Remove cylinder head.

Remove valves.

See corresponding operations in this group.

Measure valve guide with Dial Gauge and internal measuring instrument. Worn valve guides do not ensure a centred seat and lead to high oil consumption.

Attention:

Oversizes may already have been installed in the factory.

Oversize valve guides are marked on the guides and valves on the stem ends with identification numbers/letters.

Ream valve guide to next oversize

Guides should always be reamed from top of cylinder head so that most accurate bore size is on cone side of valve.

After reaming a valve guide, scratch out invalid identification and stamp in new size.

Insert valve with new valve stem seal. Install cylinder head.
