Valves, Remove and Install (16 DA, 17 D) > < Valve Stem Seal, Replace (16 DA, 17 D)

Valve Seat, Cut

 

Remove cylinder head.

Remove valves.

Insert Pilot KM - 340- 23 into valve guide as far as stop and tension.

Position Valve Seat Cutter KM - 340 - 11 (230) with 45° plane on valve seat - note arrow on tool.

Insert handle and spacer and begin cutting, removing as little material as possible.

Carry out cutting from vertically above, so that seat is concentric with valve guide.

 

Subsequently carry out top correction using 90° Cutter KM - 340- 24 (701) - note arrow.

Note width of valve seats.

Coat valve seats with finishing paste and insert into guide.

Turn valve 1/6 turn, using as little force as possible.

Lift valve and check contact pattern.

If valve does not contact properly, slightly re-cut seat.

 

Lap valves.

Measure valve recess.

Measure valve stem protrusion using Distance Gauge KM-512.

If the maximum size is exceeded and if the cylinder head mating surface cannot be re-cut, then replace the cylinder head.

 

Do not re-grind valve stem.

 

Mount new valve rotator and install valves.

Install valve lash adjuster, thrust pieces and rockers.

Install cylinder head.
