Timing, Check and Adjust

Engine: 16 DA up to MY '89112

Adjusting method using KM - 238- 2 and Dial Gauge MKM - 571- A

Important:

Check tension of toothed belt using KM-510-A and correct if necessary

See corresponding operation in the workshop literature.

Turn crankshaft until mark on flywheel is then opposite pointer on clutch housing.

Piston of 1st cylinder Is at TDC, valves of 4the cylinder overlap.

Mark on gear of Injection pump is opposite mark on pump bracket.

Mount Gauge Bar KM-238-2 with Dial Gauge MKM-571 -A on camshaft housing as shown in illustration.

Attention:

Mount foot of dial gauge - 7 to 10 mm/0.28 to 0.4 in. diameter - on base of second cam (intake of first cylinder) and set Dial Gauge to "0".

Make marks at 0 and 10 mm/0.4 in. - grease pen - on Gauge Bar, as shown in illustration.

Loosen fastening screw of camshaft timing gear.

Turn back camshaft at hexagon until dial gauge can be placed on base circle of second cam.

Move dial gauge with rail approx. 10 mm/0.4 in. towards tip of cam. When doing this, secure gauge pin. See illus. C 5167.

Using a flat 22 mm/0.87 in. spanner, turn the camshaft clockwise until foot of dial gauge has lifted 0.50 mm/0.020 in. to 0.60 mm/0.024 in.

- ideal value: 0.55 mm/0.22 in.

Hold the camshaft in this position and tighten camshaft gear.

Torque - 75 Nm/55.32 Ibf. ft. + 60 to 65°.

When doing this, counterfoil using KM - 468, to prevent it turning with respect to camshaft.

Attention:

Always use new screw on camshaft gear.

Important:

After tightening camshaft gear, check valve timing again.

After adjusting value timing, check adjustment of distributor injection pump and correct if necessary. See corresponding operation in these Service Instructions.
