V-belt Tension/Alternator, Check and Adjust

First check V-belt for splits and other damage.

Damaged V-belts should be replaced. Measure the V-belt tension with Tester KM- 128-A. As far as possible the middle between the two belt pulleys should be used as test area.

Place the Tester on the V-belt so that the guides are supporting.

Press lever "H" until the pin touches the V-belt.

A buzzing sound can be heard when contact is made with the V-belt.

Read off value from tester scale and multiply by 100.

This value corresponds to the V-belt tension in N.

V-belt tension of used belts    - 450 N/101 Ibf.

V-belt tension of new belts     - 250 to 300 N/56 to 67 Ibf.
