Distributor Injection Pump, Replace (16 DA, 17 D)
Loosen
alternator tensioning bar and remove V-belt.
Remove
upper and lower toothed belt coverings.
Remove
clutch housing cover.
Remove
vacuum pump.
Remove
camshaft housing cover.

|
Turn
crankshaft in direction of rotation of engine until TDC mark and mark on
injection pump coincide.
|
|
Loosen
water pump mounting bolts and turn housing with KM - 509 - A. Release tension
of V-belt and remove V-belt.
|
|
Remove
bolts 3 and nut 1 (arrow) from pump sprocket.
Mount
Remover KM - 532.
Pull
pump sprocket from drive shaft.
|
|
Detach
fuel supply and return lines and disconnect lead from solenoid.
|
|
Detach
injection pump from pump bracket (arrows).
|
|
Insert
bolts in pump drive sprocket.
Turn
pump hub anti-clockwise against drive sprocket until stop in slot is reached.
To prevent hub turning during further operations, loosely tighten bolts.
Attention!
Threaded
holes and slot only align in one position.
Install
injection pump and pump drive sprocket.

|
Set
injection pump to No. 1 cylinder.
To
do this, turn pump drive sprocket until mark (arrow) is vertically at top.
Pump
is now at connection "D".
Install
fuel supply and return lines. Connect lead to solenoid.
Loosen
camshaft sprocket fastening bolt.
When
doing this, counterhold camshaft with flat spanner on hexagon.
Position
and tension toothed belt.

Check
"TDC" marking on flywheel and adjust" necessary.
Loosely
tighten camshaft sprocket. To prevent sprocket turning in relation to
camshaft, counterhold with KM - 468.
Observe
prescribed torque.
Check
and adjust valve timing.

Fully
tighten camshaft sprocket.
Note!
Prescribed
torque.
Install
vacuum pump.
Install
camshaft housing cover.

Unscrew
central plug.
Screw
In Dial Gauge Holder KM - 226 - A with copper seal ring.
Insert
dial gauge.
Turn
crankshaft approx. 5 cm/1.97 in. against direction of rotation of engine.
Set
scale to "0".

|
Turn
crankshaft In direction of rotation of engine as far as "TDC" mark.
Loosen
bolts of pump sprocket and turn pump hub with KM-541 until adjustment value
is reached.

Loosely
tighten pump sprocket bolts.
Check
pump adjustment.
Turn
crankshaft back approx. 90° and again turn crankshaft in direction of
rotation of engine as far as "TDC" mark.
If
adjustment value is not reached, correct adjustment.

After
correction, tighten pump sprocket bolts. Counterhold with KM-468 to prevent
sprocket turning.
Install
toothed belt covering.
Position
V-belt, tension and install alternator.
Remove
dial gauge and holder. Install central plug with new copper seal ring.
Mount
clutch housing cover.
