Subject: Idle Speed Adjustment on 17 D Engines
with MT;
Connecting
Checking Adapter KM-690
Vehicles: Kadett-E/Astra/Belmont, Vectra/Cavalier
On the above-mentioned
vehicles, the stop screw of the engine speed control lever is often used for
adjusting the idle speed. Turning this screw modifies the exhaust gas values
and not the idle speed. This results in uneven running and stalling of
the engine.
Important Injection
pumps which have been adjusted at the engine speed control lever stop screw can
no longer be adjusted in the dealer field.
The correct adjustment is
described once again in the following pages:
Idle Speed Adjustment of
LUCAS CAV Injection Pump (MT)
Idle speed is adjusted only
at the stop screw of the lever (1) labelled "L.LAUF" (idle speed).
Under no circumstances may the plastic cap (2) be removed from the engine
speed control lever stop screw (3) and an adjustment carried out at the stop
screw.
Adjustment of the cut-off
speed is carried out at the adjustment screw (4).
After adjusting the cut-off
speed, the adjustment screw must be sealed with lead.

Idle Speed Adjustment of
BOSCH VE Injection Pump (MT)
Adjustment of the idle speed
is carried out at the side adjustment screw (1).
Again, adjustment must not
be carried out on the stop screw (2) here.
The cut-off speed is
adjusted at the stop screw (3).
After adjusting the cut-off
speed, the stop screw (3) must be sealed with lead.
Note: For AT, the adjustment screw (1) is not
present. Adjustment of the idle speed is carried out at the stop screw (2).

Checking Adapter KM-690
When screwing in Checking
Adapter KM-690, ensure that it is seated freely, as shown in illustration D
3180. Adapters which are connected askew can damage the tool and lead to
incorrect measurements. The adapter must be tightened by hand.
