Trouble-shooting: Nominal Value: Cause of Fault: (If nominal value is not attained)
Test values of mass air flow sensor hot-wire using Multimeter KM-587-A:
· Remove mass air flow sensor plug Adapt multimeter to mass air flow sensor via adapter cable from Electronic Kit KM-609
Measurement between Ter. 1 (ground) and Ter. 2 (mass air flow sensor ground): 0 Ohm Measurement between Ter. 2 (ground) and Ter. 3 (signal lead) : 2.5 to 3.1 Ohm Measurement between Ter. 2 (ground) and Ter. 6 (idle CO potentiometer signal lead): 0 to 30 Ohm (left stop) 900 to 1100 Ohm (right stop)
Checking Burn-off Operations (Visual Inspection)
Disconnect hose clamp on intake side and remove bracket. Engine running at a speed of more than 1000 1/min for 10 seconds. Switch off engine and remove intake hose After a 4 second pause, hot-wire heats up for approx. 1.5 seconds (glows red)
· Lead interruptions between relay Ter. 87 (+) and MAF Ter. 5 (+) or between relay Ter. 85 (-) and control unit Ter. 36 (-), between control unit Ter. 25 (signal) and MAF/Ter. 4, between MAF/Ter. 1 and ground
· MAF defective
· Fuel pump relay defective
· Control unit defective
Explanation: During the burn-off operation, voltage is switched from the control unit.
MAF = Hot-wire, mass air flow sensor
