Note: The lead to Ter. 40 on the control unit is present on all vehicles, but on vehicles without air conditioning it is unoccupied in the wiring harness.

· Remove control unit plug lead cover. 0 V · Short circuit against voltage Measure voltage at Ter. 40 with multimeter in lead to Ter. 40
Vehicle with AC
· Remove control unit plug lead · Short circuit to ground or interruption in lead cover. Check voltage at Ter. 40 from control unit Ter. 40 to compressor with multimeter · Control unit defective - Air conditioning OFF 0 V - Air conditioning ON 12 V Compressor switches on
