Note:

In test steps 15-18, the direct retarded adjustment of ignition for the respective cylinder during knocking combustion is displayed.

In these cases, information can be deduced about:

Remedies:

· Low fuel quality                                                                                                                 · Change fuel brand

· Carbon remains (remains from piston head, valves)                                                   · Check compression

Remove cylinder head

Important:

Observation or checking of knock regulation takes place via the self-diagnosis in the control unit (trouble codes 16, 18) and can only be simulated with extreme difficulty while driving and in extreme driving conditions.

Trouble-shooting:                                 Nominal Value:                       Cause of Fault:

· Allow engine to run at idle                                Engine telltale out                               Possible trouble code 18:

speed for more than 5 seconds                                                                                       Knock regulation module in control unit

defective

· Allow vehicle to run at 3000 min¯¹                    Engine telltale off                               Possible trouble code 16:

for longer than 3 seconds

· Lead interruptions

from control unit Ter. 11 (signal lead)

to knock sensor (brws lead)

from control unit Ter. 30 (ground)

to knock sensor (brsw lead)

· Knock sensor defective

In both cases, the control unit retards the firing angle by 10.5 °CA as a precaution to avoid damaging the engine.

brws = brown white

brsw = brown black
