Astra
Table 3, Code Tables
In order to reduce the number of different variants of control unit in production and customer service (reduced storage costs), codings are required.
By this means, the number of control units for all variants can be reduced to one unit.
The appropriate characteristic curves of the individual variants (e.g. transmission type, air conditioning, octane number, etc.) are preprogrammed in the software of the control unit.
The appropriate characteristic curves can be activated by coding or by reassigning the octane number plug.
The following table shows all Motronic M 2.5 control unit variations for Kadett-E/Astra/Belmont and Vectra/Cavalier.

Wiring Harness Coding
In order to reduce the number of different variants of control unit in production and customer service (reduced storage costs), wiring harness codings are required.
By this means, the number of control units for Kadett-E/Astra/Belmont and Vectra/Cavalier can be limited to 3 basic control units (see Control Unit Specifications)
The appropriate characteristic curves of the individual variants (e.g. transmission type, air conditioning, exhaust types and foreign versions) are preprogrammed in the software of the basic control units and are activated by the corresponding wiring harness coding.
The given terminal designations refer to the 55-pin control unit plug.
Designation of Transmission Versions:
Manual transmission version:
Ter. 21 Unoccupied Ter. 42 Against ground
Designation of Air Conditioning Version
Vehicles without AC Vehicles with AC
Ter. 41 Occupied on control unit side, unoccupied on vehicle side Ter. 41 Compressor relay Ter. 40 Occupied on control unit side, unoccupied on vehicle side Ter. 40 Compressor switch
Designation of Exhaust Versions
Ter. 20 Unoccupied -------->-------- US'83 - regulation (open loop catalytic converter) Ter. 20 To ground -------->-------- ECE R 15.04
Speedometer Signal:
Ter. 9 is connected to the odometer frequency sensor. The odometer frequency sensor is only installed in Motronic vehicles together with the board computer, LCD instrument or electronic speedometer.
Ignition Plug Coding
Note:
The coding plugs may only be operated in position "A". A change to position "B" is not permissible.
