Subject: Conversion Instructions, Multec Control Units
Condition: Multec control units manufactured in the period from June 1988 to March 1989, are affected by a high rate of failure. Production problems of the manufacturer's have caused damage that in time can lead to complete failure of the control unit.
Remedy: In the affected vehicles, replace the Multec control units as a precaution. Attached to this Technical Information Bulletin you will find a list of the affected vehicles that were sold through you.
1. First establish on the basis of this list which vehicles are still in customer possession, and on which vehicles defective control units have already been replaced. Notify the remaining customers and invite them to the workshop for a check and if necessary replacement of the control unit.
2. At the first workshop visit, check the date of manufacture located on the control unit. If the unit was not manufactured during the affected period of time, mark the vehicle with a blue spot at the upper hinge of the driver's door. Warranty applications should be submitted as described under "Checking".
Remedy: 3. Order new control units from P & A for all vehicles whose units were manufactured during the affected period of time. At the second workshop visit, install the new control unit and mark the vehicle as per item 2. Warranty applications should be submitted as described under "Replacement".
Vehicles: CORSA/NOVA, KADETT-E/ASTRA-E/BELMONT, CABRIO, VECTRA/CAVALIER with C 13 N, C 16 NZ and E 16 NZ as follows:
Affected Control Units: The date of manufacture of the control unit is recorded on the bar code sticker located on the plug strip. Read the last four digits.
The affected units lie between 8120 and 9334.
Precautionary replacement is free of charge for the customer. Warranty applications should therefore be submitted as follows:
Operations for Checking Only:
· Remove side panelling · Unscrew control unit · Read bar code and compare with data · Reinstall removed parts · If the control unit is not affected, mark the vehicle with a blue spot on the upper hinge on the driver's side.
Time Allowance: T 0273 00 Multec Control Unit - Check .4 hrs. TC: 86 A flat expenditure rate of DM 7.00 is allowed.
Operations for Checking and Replacement:
· Schedule an appointment with the customer and carry out checking operations (see above) · Procure control unit from Parts & Accessories Department · Schedule a second appointment with the customer and replace control unit · Render control unit unusable, scrap
