Electronic Ignition System (Hall Triggering)

Engines: 16 SH, 18 E

Important Workshop Information

Caution!

Electronic ignition systems have higher ignition power than conventional systems. Consequently, it could be dangerous to touch live parts carrying either low or high voltage.

It is a known fact that touching live parts with the engine running could be dangerous for persons with a cardiac pacemaker. Consequently, such persons must avoid contact with the live parts of the ignition system (even contact controlled coil ignition).

Cardiac pacemakers conforming with present day standards will not be influenced by the electromagnetic fields of transistorized ignition systems.

Regardless of this, persons with cardiac pacemakers should not be employed at workplaces in which ignition systems are operated.

Always switch off ignition or disconnect battery when working on the ignition system.

Such work includes: replacing parts such as spark plugs, ignition coil, distributor, ignition leads and trigger box.

The same safety precautions apply for the connection of testers, such as ignition stroboscope gun, dwell angle/speed tester, ignition oscilloscope, etc.

These may be connected only after switching off the ignition.
