Place Valve Seat Cutter KM-340-11 (230) with 45° plane on valve seat. Note arrow on Cutter.

Install handle with spacer and begin cutting, removing as little material as possible.

Carry out cutting from exactly vertically above seat and with little pressure, so that seat is concentric with valve guide.

Then carry out top correction using 30° Cutter.

Use same Cutter for exhaust and intake valves.

Note width of valve seat.

A = Intake

B = Exhaust

Coat valve seat with finishing paste. Insert valve into valve guide and gently turn 1/6 turn with little pressure.

Lift valve and check contact pattern. If valve does not contact fully, lightly re-cut seat.

Lap valves.

See corresponding operation in this group.

Valve stem must not project further than specified distance "A" above cylinder head. Measure projection using KM-419 (1.3 litre OHC engines) or KM-512 (1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 litre OHC engines). If distance "A" is exceeded on a re-cut valve seat or re-ground valve, valve seat is too low and cylinder head must be replaced.

End of valve stem may not be re-ground.

Mount valve with new valve stem seal.
