Even
though the valve seat is gas-tight after proper cutting as a general rule,
the quality of the seat can be further improved by additional lapping of the
valve seat cone.
Only
fine grain pastes may be used for lapping. In order to distribute lapping
paste film uniformly during lapping, the valve must repeatedly be lifted
rhythmically from its seat during turning.
After
lapping, carefully clean valve and valve seat. Before installing valves,
lubricate valve stems.
