Shaft for Rocker Arm, Replace

Cylinder head installed.

Shafts for rocker arms can be exchanged individually. To do this, slide a suitable tube sleeve approx. 25 mm/1 in. long and a washer to act as a thrust element on to shaft.

Shaft can then be pulled out of cylinder head using a normal M 8 nut. If length of thread is insufficient, it might be necessary to use several additional washers to pull out shaft.

If thread of rocker arm shaft is broken off at neck, a new thread must be cut in order to pull shaft out of cylinder head.

Two versions of the shaft, with different diameters, may be installed in the factory.

A replacement shaft must always be the same size as that being replaced. The shafts can be distinguished by one being smooth and the other having a 0.15 mm/0.006 in. shoulder.

Lightly coat new shaft with oil and drive into bore using a copper hammer to a height of 28 ± 0.5 mm/1.12 ± 0.02 in. measured between sealing surface and end of shaft. Position of oil outlet hole is not important.

When installing just one shaft, correct height can also be checked by laying a ruler or square on shafts already installed.
