Crankshaft Front Seal Ring (Oil Pump Housing), Replace

12 ST, 13 N, 13 S, 13 SC, 16 N, 16 SH, 18 E, C 18 NT and 18 NE engines only.

Release alternator at tensioning bar and lower mounting.

Remove V-belt. Position piston of cylinder 1 at ignition timing.

Remove toothed belt covering.

Loosen fastening bolt for crankshaft belt pulley.

Put vehicle in gear and apply parking brake.

Release water pump.

Release tension on toothed belt and lever off pulley using screwdriver.

Make hole in centre of shaft seal ring using suitable pointed drift. Screw in self-tapping screw and edge shaft seal ring from its seat using pliers.

Push Protective Sleeve onto crankshaft journal.

Coat seal lip of new shaft seal ring with protective grease and push onto protective sleeve until flush with oil pump housing.

Pull shaft seal ring into housing until firmly seated using KM-417 (1.3 litre engines) and KM-513 (1.6 and 1.8 litre OHC engines).

Remove protective sleeve.

Fasten crankshaft belt pulley and tension toothed belt. For prescribed torque, see table at end of this group. Mount toothed belt covering, fasten alternator and tension V-belt.
