Piston Rings, Replace > < Needle Bearing in Crankshaft, Replace

Piston with Connecting Rod, Remove and Install (Engine Installed)

 

Remove cylinder head.

Remove oil pan.

See corresponding operations in this group.

 

Mark connecting rod caps before removing.

 

Remove connecting rod caps.

 

Press piston upwards out of engine block with connecting rod.

Before installing pistons, turn all connecting rod bearing journals to "BDC" or "TDC".

Offset gaps of piston rings by 180° on all pistons.

Insert piston/connecting rod assembly with lubricated connecting rod bearing shell half into corresponding cylinder.

 

Arrow on piston head must point forwards.

Position piston ring compressor and compress piston rings.

Push piston into cylinder using a hammer handle until connecting rod bearing shell sits on connecting rod bearing journal of crankshaft.

 

Oil all connecting rod bearings and mount bearing caps.

Observe prescribed torque - see Technical Data, at end of this group.

 

Install oil pan and cylinder head.
