Crankshaft Rear Seal Ring, Replace

Remove clutch.

See corresponding operation in Group K.

Remove flywheel.

See corresponding operation in this group.

Remove

The seal ring is pulled from its seat using Remover KM-469-A.

Insert Remover Hook KM-469-5 (OHV engine) or KM-469-6 (OHC engine) between seal lip and crankshaft bearing journal.

Insert Support KM-469-3 (OHV engine) or KM-469-4 (OHC engine) into Lever KM-469-13-A as shown in illustration and lock with Pin KM-328-8.

Insert lever and support into crankshaft bearing journal opposite remover hook.

Fasten remover hook in long slot of Lever and pull out seal ring in direction of arrow.

Install

Coat seal lip of new crankshaft seal ring with protective grease Catalogue No. 19 48 814 (90 001 804).

Press protective sleeve

KM-469-7 (OHV engines)

KM-469-9 (12 ST, 13 N, 13 SC, C 13 N  OHC engines)

KM-511-9 (16 SH, 16 D, 18 E, C 18 NE, C 18 NT OHC engines).

into seal ring.

Place protective sleeve with crankshaft seal ring on crankshaft bearing journal and press in until flush.

Place pressure ring

KM-469-8 (OHV engine)

KM-469-10 (12 ST, 13 N, 13 SC, C 13 N OHC engines)

KM-511-10 (16 SH, 16 D, 18 E, C 18 NE, C 18 NT OHC engines)

on shaft seal ring.

Insert Retaining Plate KM-469-11-A (OHV and 12 ST, 13 N, 13 SC, C 13 N OHC engines) or KM-511-11 (OHC engines 16 SH, 16 D, 18 E, C 18 NE, C 18 NT) with Hex Bolt KM-469-12-A into clutch housing and press crankshaft seal ring into cylinder block until snugly seated.

To do this, insert centering pins - arrows - in fastening holes of thrust bearing guide sleeve.

Install flywheel and clutch.

Observe prescribed torque. See Table at end of this group.
