Diagnosis
Fluid Level, Check
It is extremely important for trouble-shooting that
the fluid is at the level required for correct functioning of the automatic
transmission.
Note:
When checking the fluid level and refilling with
transmission fluid, ensure utmost cleanliness, otherwise faults in the
transmission may occur.
· Vehicle must be horizontal and parking brake
engaged.
· Selector lever in "P" and allow engine
to idle for 2 minutes
|
|
· Depress brake pedal and shift selector lever
through all positions ("P", "R", "N",
"D", "3", "2", "1"); then put
selector lever in position "P"; engine still idling (measure fluid
level in this condition)
· Release fluid dipstick and remove dipstick from
tube. Wipe fluid dipstick and insert completely again (until handle touches
upper end of tube) and then remove again.
· With the transmission at operating temperature,
the fluid level should be in the warm range "+ 80 °C" on the
dipstick.

Note:
Check
the fluid level with the transmission at operating temperature.
If
the level is checked when this is not the case, the result must be regarded as
approximate, as the fluid level indicated may not be correct.
Operating
temperature is attained, for example, after approx. 20 km/12.5 miles.
The
TECH 1 mode F0:DATA LIST can be used to display parameter "TRANSM.OIL
TEMP".
If
the transmission fluid temperature is too high, wait an appropriate amount of
time until the transmission has cooled down to its normal operating
temperature.
· If necessary, top up transmission fluid with the
engine at a standstill. Use only special fluid "Dexron ®
II...", listed in the Service Instructions. Insert fluid dipstick and
fasten with locking lever.
Note:
If
the fluid level was too low, check the transmission for leaks.
