Transmission,
Replace
Drain
transmission fluid from old transmission.
If
the transmission is replaced, the following components should be modified:
-
Fittings "A" for fluid coolant hoses - torque 38 Nm/28.03 lbf. ft.
Note: On
vehicles with transmission code "EF" and "EK",the steel
plug must not be removed. These vehicles do not have a fluid cooler.
-
Bracket for selector lever cable.
-
2 fluid coolant hoses

Note: The
fluid coolant hoses must be cleaned and then blown out with compressed air to
remove residual fluid or abraded clutch lining remains.
- Selector lever position
switch
Note: The
selector lever position switch should only be converted on vehicles with
catalytic converter. On these vehicles, the selector lever position switch is
on the transmission. For adjustment of selector lever position switch - see
operation in this group.
Top up transmission fluid in
new transmission - approx. 7 litres/1.54 gallons.
Important
The transmission code which is
printed or stamped on the vehicle identification plate (on top of the the main
case cover) (e.g. 83 EQ 1609), permits easy differentiation of the individual
transmission types. This transmission code also contains information about the
inner construction of the transmission - see "Technical Data".
The transmission code details
all transmission components that are affected when an adjustment is made to the
vehicle and engine to attain optimal shifting quality and driving efficiency.
It is therefore very important that the transmission code be given in enquiries
about maintenance operations.
If the transmission code and
transmission number are not given exactly, a precise definition of the
complaint is impossible.
