Measuring Procedure for Retainer Ring

(Selective) between Reaction Sun Gear

and Input Drum

Mount Tool KM-J-28588 with two cover bolts, as shown in illustration.

The measuring pin of Tool KM-J-28588 stands between the ends of retainer ring "A".

Slide feeler gauge "B" under measuring pin.

Note: Reaction sun gear must be fully depressed.

Mount Tool KM-482, Dial Indicator KM-J-8001 or Dial Indicator MKM-572.

Set gauge "A" to "0".

Turn retainer ring (selective) so that it lies under measuring pin.

Swing feeler gauge "A" away from measuring pin.

Axial play must be between -0.13 mm and +0.33 mm/ -0.005 and +0.013 in. from zero.

If axial play is not correct, select correct retainer ring on basis of the following table.

Note: Re-measure thickness of removed retainer ring.

Retainer ring "A" is located on the reaction sun gear.

Orange                3.29 to 3.39 mm/0.130 to 0.133 in.

Colourless           3.46 to 3.56 mm/0.136 to 0.140 in.

Measurement of Axial Play between Clutch Housing for Reverse Clutch and Sprag Race Assembly

Tool remains unchanged from previous measurement, as shown in illustration. Dial gauge should, however, be set to zero.

Raise reaction internal gear with Tool KM-J-28585 through main case opening for parking lock.

Axial play should be between 0.08 and 1.17 mm/0.0031 and 0.046 in.

If axial play is not correct, select correct thrust washer on basis of the following table.

Note: Re-measure thickness of selected washer.

The thrust washer is located on the sprag race assembly.

Remove measuring tool.

Remove reaction sun gear.

Note:    If retainer ring (selective) must be exchanged, remove and reinstall retainer ring with aid of Pliers KM-396. Do not widen new retainer ring more than necessary when installing.
