Assemblies in Main Case, Install > < Assemblies, Remove from Main Case

Selector Slide or Main Case Cover, Replace

 

Knock out cup-shaped plug using Tool KM-J-28630.

 

 

Object Number: 2374192  Size: DEFAULT

 

 

Remove selector slide.

 

Note:    Inspect selector slide for damage and scoring - replace if necessary.

 

Install new selector slide.

 

 

 

Object Number: 2374193  Size: DEFAULT

 

 

Drive in new cup-shaped plug using KM-J-28698 until flush with outside edge of cover.

 

Note:    Coat sealing surface of cup-shaped plug with Sealing Compound 15 03 166 (90 094 714 Loctite type 573).

If connections for fluid lines "A" and venting nipples "B" are replaced or disassembled, these should be installed using Sealing Compound 15 03 166 (90 094 714 Loctite type 573).

 

Detent springs "C" can be replaced simply by screwing off and on.

Pull out cap spring pins "A" for thermostat element using pliers.

 

Note:    Do not damage sealing surface of main case cover.

 

Remove plate "B" and spring "C" of thermostat element, if necessary replace.

 

 

Object Number: 2374196  Size: DEFAULT

 

 

Install thermostat element and drive in cap spring pins using Tool KM-J-29023.

 

Note:    Height of installed cap spring pins is 5.4 mm/0.21 in.

 

 

 

Object Number: 2374197  Size: DEFAULT

 

 

Using Tool KM-J-29023 check in addition height of spring pin (1).

 

Note:    Height is 6.0 mm/0.24 in.

              If necessary remove cap spring pin (1) and drive in to right height using KM-J-29023.

 

Check thrust washer (2) for wear and damage, if necessary replace.

 

Note:    When installing, cement thrust washer (2) to main case cover using Installation Grease 19 42 530 (90 093 201).

 

 

 

Object Number: 2381001  Size: DEFAULT

 

 

Driving Sprocket or Driven Sprocket, Replace.

 

Remove snap ring using Tool KM-396.

Pull off sprocket from turbine shaft.

Install new sprocket and snap ring.

 

Note:    If sprockets and chain have been run in they should always be replaced together if possible. With Model Year '84, a broader chain is used (previously 3/4", now 7/8").

 

              When replacing chain, the wide sprockets belonging to chain must also be used. Observe ratio (number of teeth - 35/35 and 33/37).
