GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPERATIONS ON THE THM 125 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION

Particular attention should be paid to utmost cleanliness during all work on the automatic transmission. Likewise, the tools used must be absolutely clean, as most operational faults are caused through dirt or foreign matter.

In order to be able to carry out specific repair work, it is necessary that the fluid pressure is carefully checked before removing the automatic transmission. The necessary repair work can then be carried out using the combined results of the specific diagnosis and the fluid pressures measured.

Before fitting the transmission components and screws, these must always be immersed in transmission fluid. Bearings, seals and seal rings are to be inserted with Grease 19 42 530 (90 093 201 Petrolatum).

If threads in aluminium components are stripped or damaged, these parts are not necessarily unusable. These threads can be repaired with commercially available Helicoil inserts.

The required torque values should be taken from the torque reference value table (Technical Data).

Balancing front wheels with mobile sensitive balancing equipment (on vehicle)

In order to avoid any damage to the automatic transmission the front wheels may only be balanced on the vehicle with:

       - front axle raised (both wheels free)

       - engine running at idle speed and

       - selector lever in position "N".

Important:     In all tightening operations in which microencapsulated bolts are used, the threads of the retaining bolts to be used must be recut before they are used. The retaining bolts should be installed using Locking Compound 15 10 177 (90 167 347).
