End Shield with Main Shaft and Turbine Shaft, Remove and Disassemble

Shift transmission into 2nd gear (rear shift fork).

Unbolt end shield from main case.

Pull end shield with main shaft and turbine shaft out of main case.

Screw end shield to Installer KM-552.

Knock 3 plug closures for shift detents out of end shield using KM-457-A in conjunction with KM-328-01.

       Remove pressure springs and detent pins from bores.

Drive retaining pins out of 3rd and 4th shift forks and reverse shift fork using drive.

       Important:

       When removing retaining pins, support upper part of all shift rods using a piece of wood so as not to overload rod guides in end shield.

Remove shift rods and forks for 3rd and 4th gear and reverse gear from end shield.

       Shifting sleeve must be in neutral position

Remove both snap rings fastening main shaft and turbine shaft.

Use KM-443-B to do this.

       Retaining ring for fastening main shaft can be tensioned using a metal removal aid (A).

Pull main shaft, turbine shaft, reverse idler gear, shift fork and shift rod for 1st and 2nd gear out of end shield.

Remove both detent locking pins from bores in end shield.

Remove reverse idler gear shaft from end shield.

       Clamp shaft between protective jaws in a vice.

       Tap end shield carefully with a brass drift to remove.

       Note locking ball.
