b) Seal for Shift Mechanism Cover, Replace

Loosen screws for clamp at shift linkage and separate linkage from transmission.

On vehicles with catalytic converter:

       Remove pin of universal joint at shift linkage.

       Remove retaining clamp from pin.

Unbolt shift mechanism cover from main case and remove (illus. C 0039).

Stick new gasket to main case with antifriction bearing grease

       Important:

       The cover is not bolted firmly in place on the main case until after the end shield has been installed (pos. C).
