Fluid Levels for Manual Transmissions - Technical Information - 1991
Subject:
Fluid Levels for Manual Transmissions
Vehicles:
All passenger vehicles and delivery vans with manual transmission as of MY '89
Condition:
In repeated cases, the fluid level in manual transmission vehicles has been checked during the pre-delivery inspection, found to be incorrect and corrected.
Cause:
In all F-10 and F-13 transmissions as of MY '89, the fluid level is filled up in the factory to approx. 15 mm/0.6 in. below the checking aperture.
In all F-16/5 CR and F-20 transmissions up to MY '89½, the transmission fluid is also filled up to approx. 15 mm/0.6 in. below the checking aperture.
In all vehicles with rear wheel drive and R 25/R 28 transmission, the fluid level is filled up in the factory to approx. 9 mm/0.35 in. below the checking/filling aperture.
Remedy:
1. Do not check and correct the transmission fluid level during the predelivery inspection.
2. Only after repairs to the transmission should the fluid level be: filled to the lower edge of the checking aperture in all F-10 and F-13 transmissions; filled to the lower edge of the checking aperture in all F-16/5 CR and F-20 transmissions as of MY '89½ as well; always filled to approx. 15 mm/0.6 in. below the lower edge of the checking aperture in all F-16/5 CR and F-20 transmissions up to MY '89½;
3. In vehicles with rear wheel drive and R 25/R 28 transmission, always fill up the fluid level to approx. 9 mm/0.35 in. below the lower edge of the checking aperture.
Note:
All warranty applications which are filed due to incorrect transmission fluid filling in the pre-delivery inspection will not be recognized.
Time Allowance:
The time allowances published for transmission repair include the specified filling up of transmission fluid.
