Hydraulic Lines, Replace
Hydraulic Lines of Power
Steering
1 = Pressure line
2 = Expanding hose
3 = Hose, suction line
4 = Connecting hose
5 = Return pipe

Oil will escape when lines and
hoses are removed - place collecting basin underneath.
When installing, make sure
that lines are not twisted or bent and avoid abrasions as well contact with hot
and rotating parts.
Generally replace plastic hose
clips, seals and the like.
After installing, fill up
hydraulic system - see corresponding operation.
Check for leaks with engine
running (idling) and with steering actuated.
Replace pressure line:
Remove
Remove special bolt from
steering gear and unscrew union nut from expanding hose.
Remove pressure line from
fastenings.
Install
Tighten pressure line and
insert in fastenings.
Pressure line union nut to expanding hose -
28 Nm/20.6 lbf. ft.
Pressure line special screw to steering gear -
28 Nm/20.6 lbf. ft. (Saginaw)

37 Nm/27.3 lbf. ft. (ZF)
Replace expanding hose:
Remove
Unscrew expanding hose union
nuts from pressure line and hydraulic pump.
Remove expanding hose from
fastenings.
Install
Screw expanding hose to
pressure line and hydraulic pump and insert into fastenings.
Expanding hose union nut to hydraulic pump and
pressure line - 28 Nm/20.6 lbf. ft.
Fastenings bolted - 7 Nm/5.2 lbf. ft.
Replace return pipe:
Remove
Unbolt special bolt from
steering gear and hose clamp from connecting hose.
Install
Tighten hose clamp for
connecting hose to return pipe until oil-tight.
Return pipe special screw to steering gear -
28 Nm/20.6 lbf. ft. (Saginaw)

37 Nm/27.3 lbf. ft. (ZF)
Replace connecting hose:
Remove
Unscrew hose clamps from
return pipe and suction line.
Remove connecting hose from
fastenings.
Install
Tighten hose clamps for
connecting hose to return pipe and suction line until oil-tight and insert in
fastenings.
Replace suction line hose:
Remove
Unscrew hose clamps from
compressor and fluid reservoir.
Remove suction line from
fastenings.
Install
Tighten suction line hose
clamps to compressor and fluid reservoir until oil-tight and insert into
fastenings.
Fastenings screwed - 7 Nm/5.2 lbf. ft.
