Remove and Install
Remove
It is only necessary to
remove the steering column assembly if another operation requires this or if
the steering column or the steering and ignition lock housing must replaced.
Unscrew upper and lower
signal switch panelling (8 screws) and remove both halves of panelling.
To
do this, turn steering wheel approx. 90° to left or right so that screws
become visible.

Remove lock cylinder.
Push
down detent spring of lock cylinder in position II.
Pull off wiring harness for
steering and ignition lock from contact part.
|

Unclip
signal switch (left) and wiper switch (right) with respective switch levers
from housing.
|
|
Position steering straight

Unscrew clamp bolt for
steering spindle from steering spindle flange.
Unscrew hex bolt for
steering column mounting from dash panel.

Remove
shear plates below instrument panel.
To do this, centre punch left hand shear bolt.

Install
During installation, ensure
that the steering wheel spokes are centred diagonally and pointing downwards.
The
plastic washer for centring the steering spindle is placed in the steering
column.
The steering gear must be in
straight ahead position.
Hole
for steering spindle flange bolt lies horizontally on top.
Install steering column
assembly free of tension.
Insert
steering spindle carefully into steering spindle flange until steering
column support stop is reached.
Loosely
premount shear plates on instrument
panel, steering column support on dash panel and clamp bolt in steering spindle
flange (insert bolt from worked surface of flange.)
Fasten
steering column and support to dash panel - observe prescribed torque. Insert
washer between support and hex bolt.
Fasten shear plates. On left
side, use a shear bolt (hex head shears off) on right side, use a new
self-locking nut (washer) - observe prescribed torque.
Pull steering spindle upwards
to stop on steering spindle ball bearing. In this position, tighten clamp bolt
for steering spindle flange - observe rescribed torque.
Press

steering spindle.)
Insert wiring harness for
steering and ignition lock in contact part.
Clip signal switch (left) and
wiper switch (right) into housing.
