Fog
Lamps, Service Install
(Not
GSi/GTE)
Up
to Model Year 1989:
The
fog lamps are installed in the front bumper.
Disconnect
battery ground cable.
|
|
Remove
front bumper.
Remove
2 hex nuts from rear of front side.
Pull
front panelling from side mountings.
|
|
Remove
3 bolts from front of front side.
Pull
bumper from side mountings.
|
|
Cut
out and debur holes for fog lamps in bumper.
The
position of the holes is marked on the rear of the bumper by roughened
surfaces.
To
facilitate cutting, first drill, using centre bit, holes with 2 to 3 mm/0.08
to 0.12 in. radii at the four corners, then cut out holes and fit for lamps.
|
|
Insert
both fog lamps and bolt on.
Insert
2 tightening nuts for each of upper fastenings.
Install
bumper.
|
|
Lever
off blind cover from fog lamp switch installation point.
Drill
hole Æ 13 mm/0.51 in. in dash panel for cable passage.
Prepare
cable according to circuit diagram, lay alongside standard wiring harness and
connect electrically.
|
|
Screw
relay to bulkhead.
To
do this, drill hole Æ 3 mm/0.12 in.

Prepare
plug connection for connection to fog lamp cable.
To
do this, push on seals "A" prior to making plug connections.
|
|
Connect
cable from relay terminal "85" with white cable for left high beam.
Splice
connector
If
fog lamps are to operate in conjunction with high beam, connect cable from
relay terminal "85" to ground with relay fastening screw.
|
|
Screw
on fog lamp ground lead with battery ground cable.
|
|
Pull
out lamp switch using offset screwdriver.
To
do this, compress retaining spring.
|
|
Connect
cable from relay terminal "30" to grey/green cable from light
switch terminal "58" using splice connector.
Connect
fog lamps electrically.
Insert
both switches.
|
|
Connect
cables from fog lamp switch terminals "1" and "3" to fuse
box terminals "15" (A) and "58" (B).
|
|
Insert
bulbs in fog lamps.
Connect
battery ground cable.
Fog
Lamp, Check Function and Adjust
With
the ignition switched on, the fog lamps may light up in conjunction with
parking lamps or with high or low beam. If relay terminal "85" is
connected to the white high beam cable, switching to high beam will
automatically switch off the fog lamps.
|
|
The
green light emitting diode in the fog lamp switch must light up.
The
switch symbol lights up in conjunction with the exterior lighting.
|
|
A
level surface is required for adjusting the fog lamps, since even small
irregularities can greatly influence the test result.
Check
tyre pressure and adjust to prescribed values.
Load
one rear seat with a person or object weighing 70 kg/154 lbs.
The
vehicle should otherwise be unloaded, i.e. curb weight.
The
curb weight is the weight of a vehicle ready to drive with the fuel tank
completely filled and including all equipment normally carried in vehicle
while driving, i.e. spare wheel, spare parts, tools, vehicle jack and other
similar items.
Adjust
fog lamps to the upper light/dark border using the adjustment screw and an
optical headlamp aimer. The light/dark border runs horizontally along the
adjustment line.
Follow
operating instructions supplied with aimer.
Inclination
of fog lights will be 20 cm over 10 m/7.87 in. over 33 ft.
