Roof Luggage Carrier (Railing), Service Install

Models 35, 36, 37, 45, 46, 47

Installation Kit 17 32 326-90 009 927 together with fastening components is available from the P & A Department.

General instructions for installation:

1     Base, front         6   Protective cap

2     Base, centre      7   Countersunk screw M 4 x 12

3     Base, rear          8   Countersunk screw M 5 x 12

4     Support tube      9   Fillister head screw M 5 x 20

5     Shim

Install

Remove standard roof strips.

Position new roof strips with recesses for bases of roof luggage carrier (without fastening clamps) on rain gutter so that they are flush with roof edge.

Assemble support tube and base parts.

Transfer bores in base parts to roof channel (rain gutter).

Drill holes 7 mm/0.28 in. Æ using Multi-Step Drill 17 55 939-90 167 432.

Grease tip of drill to prevent cuttings falling into roof frame.

Remove grease from roof frame.

Protect holes against corrosion.

Important:   Holes must be free of burrs and absolutely round, so that rivet nuts sit securely.

Screw rivet nuts in Rivet Pliers KM-594 according to operating instructions and adjust rivet stroke.

3       Rivet pliers

4     Stop screw (stroke adjustment)

Insert rivet nuts in drilled holes and rivet tightly.

Install cover strip with retaining clamps on rain gutter (10 clamps per strip).

Note:     Do not insert clamps laterally inverted - thick catch (2) of clamp must point to centre of roof.

              At end of roof, the cover strips have double-sided adhesive tape on the outside (x).

Press tape firmly onto roof panel.

Install roof luggage carrier.

1     Roof (rain gutter)

2     Rivet nut

3     Fillister head screw

4     Intermediate shim

5     Supporting base

6     Protective cap

7     Support tube

Tighten fillister head screws.

The various roof constructions available in the Parts Range may be installed on the support tubes.
