Damping Bushings of Rear Axle, Replace - All Models except Combo
Remove, Disconnect Detach brake lines from brackets on underbody. On vehicles with load-dependent brake proportioning valve: detach spring. On vehicles with ABS: clip off cable for ABS sensor and disconnect. Place hydraulic jack centrally under rear axle. Unscrew rear axle fastening on left side, remove fastening bolt. Lower rear axle slightly and insert KM-548-5 in underbody. If necessary, lever slightly on rear axle with screwdriver. |

Remove rear axle fastening on right side using hydraulic jack. If necessary, lever slightly on rear axle with screwdriver. Cut off approx. 10 mm from the inside of the rubber bushing on both sides (see illus.). |

Remove, Disconnect Remove bushing from rear axle body using KM-548-11 and KM-548-12.
Important! In doing so, ensure that turning is done only at the hex nut (arrow).
Install, Connect |

Coat new damping bushing thinly with cleaning liquid before installation. Insert damping bushing using KM-548-13 and KM-548-14.
Important! Ensure that only the hex nut is turned (arrow) and that collar lies uniformly on rear axle body. |

Remove, Disconnect Raise rear axle slightly and insert KM-548-5 on right side (see illus.). Remove and install left damping bushing analogously.
Clean Clean contact surfaces for collar head screw and collar head nut at vehicle underbody bracket. Ensure that no wax, grease, oil or other lubricants get on the contact surfaces.
Install, Connect |

Fasten rear axle as specified in operation "Rear Axle, Remove and Install", except for operations "Rear Spring, Install" and "Brake System, Bleed". If necessary, use screwdriver to correct rear axle for inserting fastening bolts (see illus.). |
