Both Rear Springs, Remove and Install (except Model 71, Combo)
 Remove, Disconnect Place hydraulic jack under right axle outrigger and raise slightly. Unbolt shock absorbers (see illus. I) and remove from bracket. If necessary, unclip brake lines from underbody. On vehicles with load-dependent proportioning valve, detach spring. Slowly lower hydraulic jack and place under left rear axle outrigger. Raise slightly. Unbolt shock absorbers and remove from bracket. Slowly lower hydraulic jack. First remove right then left rear spring (see illus. II). Remove damping rings.
 Install, Connect Position hydraulic jack under the right rear axle outrigger and lift slightly. Insert right rear spring with rubber damper and lift rear axle further. Repeat operation on the left-hand side, in the same sequence. |

Notice: The entire production number or the last four digits of the production number are embossed in the upper end of the spring - pointing to the vehicle floor. Example: 90 425 938 or 5 938 GM 165, see "Technical Data - Identification of Rear Springs".
 Important! Note installation position of springs. Smaller spring coil (arrow, see illus.) points to vehicle floor.
Install, Connect First install left then right shock absorber to rear axle. Tighten to 65 Nm / 48 lbf. ft. On vehicles with load-dependent brake proportioning valve, attach spring. Remove hydraulic jack. |
