Note:
The camshaft sensor (Hall sensor) is used for cylinder
recognition. It informs the engine control unit about the crankshaft
revolution on which cylinder "1" ignites. This information is
required by the engine control unit for correct timing of fuel injection and
for the adaptive knock control.
If the camshaft sensor malfunctions, the engine control unit
uses a random point in time for actuation of the injector.
Malfunctioning of the camshaft sensor manifests itself as cold
start problems and increased fuel consumption.
