General Instructions / Safety Measures

Readout of data using TECH 1 takes place with ignition ON and/or with engine running. During communication between TECH 1 and the transmission control unit, the transmission telltale/sport program lamp in the instrument panel must illuminate.

·   Never connect or disconnect wiring harness plug to/from the transmission control unit or other electronic components with the ignition switched on.

·   Before charging or quick-charging, disconnect the battery from the vehicle electrical system.

·   Never disconnect battery from vehicle electrical system with engine running.

·   Never use the quick-charger for starting.

·   Caution when touching voltage-bearing parts of the ignition system.

·   Control units must be removed before welding work is carried out.

·   At temperatures above +80 °C/+176 °F (drying oven), control units must be removed.

·   Use only high-resistance voltage tester for checking.

·   During test steps which involve the connection of contacts from wiring harness plugs or control units with ground or battery voltage (+12 V), proceed with utmost care and concentration. Incorrect contacting can lead to destruction of internal circuits in the control units in question.

·   After disconnecting the battery, volatile memories must be reprogrammed. In the case of radio coding and radio station programming, the customer should be informed about the decoding and deleted station programming.

·   After the engine or automatic transmission has been removed, make sure that ground connections are correct on reinstallation. If the engine is started with a loose or incorrect ground connection, this can lead to damage/destruction of the control unit.
