Cover for Shift Mechanism, Remove and Install and / or Seal  

  Remove, Disconnect   

For vehicles with RHD: Remove battery. Remove battery support.  

Detach universal joint from shifter rod - for this, press in retaining spring (arrow) or detent springs of hollow pin and prise out hollow pin with KM-569-A.   Press adjustment pin (2) into adjustment bore, at the same time turn shifter rod to the left (direction of 3rd gear) - in transmissions F 13 and F 17, the adjustment pin is located at the front in direction of travel.   Remove shift cover (1) from transmission. Cover transmission aperture with clean cloth.     Clean    Remove sealant remnants and clean sealing surfaces.

  Measure   

Measure play (I) between dowel pin (2) and 3rd/4th gear shifter rod actuation (1) with feeler gauge.   Play must be approx. 0.5 mm.     Adjust    If play is too large: Drive in dowel pin further in transmission housing with drift and re-measure play.   If play is too small: Correction of play is not required as shift rod presses dowel pin into correct position.     Install, Connect    Adhere new gasket with grease to transmission housing. Place shift cover on transmission - ensure that adjusting pin sits in adjusting bore hole and shift locks.   Attach gearshift cover to transmission - tightening torque 12 Nm / 9 lbf. ft. Pull adjustment pin out of adjustment bore.

  Install, Connect   

Slide universal joint (2) into gear control fork (3). Coat new hollow pin with grease. Press hollow pin (1) in direction of arrow until retaining spring or detent springs engage(s).     Inspect    Check transmission fluid level, correct if necessary - see operation "Transmission Fluid Level, Check".     Install, Connect    For vehicles with right-hand drive: Install battery carrier - tightening torque 15 Nm / 11 lbf. ft. Install battery.   Shift through transmission.
