Piston Rings, Replace
Remove
1. |
Remove piston with con-rod
|
Important: Do not damage piston
and con-rod. Use protective jaws.
|
2. |
Insert the piston and con-rod in the vice
|
Important: The maximum spread at
the ring gap must not exceed dimension I ( 28 mm )
|
3. |
Remove piston rings
• |
Remove 3 piston rings with piston ring pliers (1)
|
|
|
|
4. |
Check the piston ring gap with a feeler gauge
• |
Insert the piston ring in the cylinder bore
|
• |
Permissible gap:
– |
1st compression ring (1) 0,20 –
0,30 mm
|
– |
2nd compression ring (2) 1,00 –
1,50 mm
|
– |
Oil scraper ring (3) 0,25 – 0,50
mm
|
|
|
5. |
Use feeler gauge to check piston ring axial clearance in piston
ring groove
• |
Permissible axial clearance:
– |
1st compression ring (1) 0,09 –
0,13 mm
|
– |
2nd compression ring (2) 0,04 –
0,08 mm
|
– |
Oil scraper ring (3) 0,03 – 0,07
mm
|
|
|
|
|
Install
Important: The maximum spread at
the ring gap must not exceed dimension I ( 28 mm )

6. |
Fit piston rings
• |
Use piston ring tongs (1) to insert 3 piston rings in annular
groove
Note: Note markings on
piston rings
|

7. |
Adjust piston ring gaps
• |
Arrange piston ring joints offset by 120° with respect to each other
|
|
|
|
8. |
Remove piston with con-rod from vice
|
9. |
Install piston with con-rod
|
