Timing chain - Z 13 DT DOHC diesel engine

Engine timing is carried out using a Simplex timing chain. As the high-pressure pump is driven by the camshaft and the coolant pump by the ribbed V-belt gear, the timing chain gear only drives the crankshaft sprocket and the camshaft sprocket. A hydraulic, maintenance-free chain tensioner ensures the correct chain tension. The timing chain is led through a centrally mounted tensioning rail and also through a guide rail attached to the timing case on the driving side.

•  Service:
The timing chain is a so-called continuous chain. It must not be separated out, fitted with a chain joint or re-installed.

Route of timing chain
