J501200 Toothed Belt Tension, Check And Correct (Z 18 XE, with Air Conditioning, LHD)

1.   Open bonnet
2.   Remove engine cover.
•   Unscrew oil filler pipe cap
•   Unscrew 2 bolts
•   Screw on oil filler pipe cap
3.   Remove air cleaner housing (1)
•   Disconnect 2 wiring harness plugs
– Hot film mass air flow meter (4), tank vent valve (2)
•   Unclip tank vent valve
•   Detach intake hose
•   Detach engine vent hose (3)
•   Remove bolt (arrow)

4.   Remove upper part of toothed belt cover
•   Unscrew 3 bolts (arrows)
•   Unclip from rear toothed belt cover

5.   Raise vehicle
6.   Remove right-hand air duct
•   Unscrew 3 bolts (arrows)
7.   Remove ribbed V-belt cover
•   Unscrew 3 bolts (1)
•   Remove clip (2)
8.   Lower vehicle

9.   Timing, Check
•   Set crankshaft to mark.
– Turn crankshaft evenly
– Marks on crankshaft ribbed V-belt pulley and front toothed belt cover (2) must align
•   Fix camshaft sprockets in position.
– Marks (1) must be opposite one another and aligned with the top edge of the cylinder head.
– Use KM-852
•   If KM-852 cannot be inserted, a basic adjustment of the timing must be performed

10.   Detach front right wheel
•   Loosen 4 bolts
11.   Raise vehicle
12.   Remove right front wheel.
•   Remove 4 bolts
13.   Raise vehicle
14.   Remove ribbed V-belt
•   Tension ribbed V-belt tensioner in direction of arrow with KM-913-A (2)
•   Use KM-6130 (1)

15.   Remove ribbed V-belt tensioner
•   Tension ribbed V-belt tensioner.
•   Remove KM-6130 (2)
•   Release ribbed V-belt tensioner
•   Remove bolt (1)

16.   Detach crankshaft ribbed V-belt pulley
•   Prise front closure plug out of oil pan
•   Use KM-911
•   Remove bolt
•   Remove KM-911

17.   Release lower part of toothed belt cover
•   Remove bolt (arrow)
•   Unclip from rear toothed belt cover
18.   Remove lower part of toothed belt cover
•   Unclip from rear toothed belt cover
•   Remove downwards
19.   Lower vehicle

20.   Set 1st cylinder to TDC of combustion stroke
•   Install crankshaft V-belt pulley bolt
•   Set crankshaft to mark.
– Turn crankshaft evenly
– Marks on drive gear toothed belt and rear toothed belt cover must align (III).
•   Fix camshaft sprockets in position.
– Marks must be opposite one another and aligned with the top edge of the cylinder head (I)
– Use KM-852 (II)

21.   Check toothed belt tension
•   Pointer on the toothed belt tension roller and notch mark USED must align
22.   Tension toothed belt
•   Loosen toothed belt tension roller.
– Loosen bolt
•   Tension toothed belt tension roller
– Turn adjusting eccentric in direction of arrow (anticlockwise) until pointer of the toothed belt tension roller is located just before left stop
•   Fasten toothed belt tension roller bolt (1)
23.   Remove KM-852

24.   Turn crankshaft 720°
•   Marks on drive gear toothed belt and rear toothed belt cover must align.
25.   Adjust toothed belt tension
•   Release toothed belt tension roller
– Loosen bolt
•   Turn adjustment eccentric clockwise until pointer (1) of toothed belt tension roller is aligned with the USED notch mark (2).
•   Tighten toothed belt tension roller bolt 20 Nm
26.   Check toothed belt tension
•   Turn crankshaft (720°)
•   Pointer on the toothed belt tension roller and notch mark USED must align

27.   Raise vehicle
28.   Install lower part of toothed belt cover
•   Clip to rear of toothed belt cover
•   Tighten bolt 4 Nm
29.   Install ribbed V-belt tensioner
•   Tighten bolt 35 Nm
•   Tension ribbed V-belt tensioner with KM-913-A
•   Use KM-6130
30.   Attach crankshaft ribbed V-belt pulley
•   Use KM-911
•   Replace bolt
•   Tighten bolt 95 Nm + 30° + 15°
•   Remove KM-911
•   Insert front closure plug
31.   Install ribbed V-belt
•   Observe running direction and installation position
•   Slacken ribbed V-belt tensioner with KM-913-A
•   Remove KM-6130
32.   Install ribbed V-belt cover
•   Screw in bolts
•   Install clip
•   Install air duct
– Tighten 3 bolts
33.   Lower vehicle
34.   Mount right front wheel.
•   Screw in 4 bolts
35.   Lower vehicle
36.   Fasten right front wheel.
•   Tighten 4 bolts 110 Nm
37.   Install upper part of toothed belt cover
•   Clip to rear of toothed belt cover
•   Tighten 3x bolts 4 Nm
38.   Install air cleaner housing
•   Tighten bolt
•   Install suction hose
•   Attach engine vent hose
•   Clip in tank vent valve
•   Connect 2 wiring harness plugs
39.   Install engine cover.
•   Unscrew oil filler pipe cap
•   Insert retaining lugs
•   Tighten 2x bolts 8 Nm
•   Screw on oil filler pipe cap
40.   Close bonnet
